The trial of Michael Jackson’s doctor is proving a PR bonanza for fading celebrities. For a notorious recluse ensconced in a world of demerol and chimpanzees, Jackson seems nonetheless to have cultivated a remarkable inventory of famous friends now on-hand for insight into “what Michael was really like”. During one interview Gloria Estefan conceded that while she was not “close friends” with the King of Neverland they were “label mates”. Working for the same recording label also gave her the profound insight that she “always knew he would die young”. Some opportunities are better missed and this was one.
The PR Verdict: B Minus. We understand the temptation to talk but rein it in if you have nothing to add.
